There are still mysteries left in this world and the well hidden "Magic Capital of the World" in Southwest Michigan in certainly one of those. Magicians first located here in 1927 and in 1934 they had their first convention of magic which they called "The Abbott's Magic Get Together". Since then magicians have been flocking to this small village of 1200 which has been designated as the Magic Capital of the World not only by magicians and townsfolk, but by the United States Congress and the State of Michigan.
Located in southern Michigan, nestled quietly amid the two lakes and a forest of trees, Colon is a hidden paradise that is an ideal location for bus tours, mystery tours, visitors, and vacationers. The village is also a perfect spot for sportsmen and women seeking fishing, swimming, water skiing and other outdoor recreations, or for the entrepreneur who is looking for a place to locate his/her business.
A visit to the Magic Capital would not be complete without a magic show at the Abbott Magic Shop. Built during the great depression, the showroom is above a working factory below. The downtown area has magic shops and first rate restaurants where you can purchase just about anything magical. The homes are two-story Victorian houses as well as more modest homes for the young family, many with yards big enough for kids to play a pickup game of whiffle-ball. Often you can find a group of kids (and occasionally some older folk) playing games of basketball, pickelball, and volleyball at our community park. Taxes are low, crime is well below state averages, population is about the same it was 50 years ago at around 1,200.
The village of Colon is secluded and hard to find. It is not near any interstate or major highway and the folks that live here like it that way. Like magicians who hold the secret to magic illusions, the feeling that most people have no idea where Colon is on a map is just fine with the residents. This quiet and peaceful environment and its friendly citizens make Colon an ideal place to visit, spend your vacation, or as a permanent location for your home or business. Colon is recognized nationally and statewide as the Magic Capital of the World and with good reason. It has a hundred year history of magic that you can see at the Colon Museum and throughout the village. There are several magic shops in town including the 90+ year old Abbott's Magic Shop. Incredibly there is even a "Magic Graveyard" recognized by the State of Michigan as a Historic Landmark where many famous (and some not so famous) magicians are interred. Thats just the tip of the iceberg as we have so much more to show you, and these are sights that cannot be found anywhere else in the world so we hope to see you soon.
