Colon Lioness Induct New Members and Prepare for Bazaar

The Colon Lioness Club had the honor of inducting two new members during their November meeting. Colon Lion President, Jack Rudy, joined the Lioness to conduct the ceremony of membership for Marie Decker of Sherwood and Glenna Michielsen of Burr Oak. These two ladies joined right in with the group and immediately picked up their raffle tickets and paid their membership dues so their votes could be included at the business meeting.

The raffle tickets sell for only $1 each and there will be a drawing for the four prizes at the Colon Lioness craft bazaar on November 21st., from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Colon American Legion Hall on State Street in Colon. Tickets will be available for purchase at this event. The Lioness will also be having a bake sale during this time and will be serving lunch for a small donation. All profits from this sale are donated to charity by the club members.

Lioness McClish and Lioness Decker showed the Lioness how to make Linus blankets and these were worked on during the meeting. Three blankets were completed to be donated to the Linus project. The Linus blankets are provided for children who are sick, traumatized, or just in need of some security and warmth. Project Linus has distributed over three million blankets since their inception in 1995.

The Colon Lioness club meets every second Monday at 7:00 p.m. at the Colon American Legion Hall. We are always looking for new members! If you have a little time, we work for charity, along with having a lot of fun. We just finished ringing the bell for the Salvation Army in front of the Village Market in Colon. Our upcoming projects include adopting a family for Christmas who is in need, making and distributing Christmas baskets to 70 shut-ins in the Colon area, offering free fingerprinting, ID pictures and cards for children at the Colon Expo in April, and selling sno-cones at the annual Fourth of July event in Colon. We are currently sponsoring a class at the Colon Elementary School for the school year, helping out in any way we can. If you know of someone who needs help or a group who could use a hand, feel free to let us know. President Karin Milliman may be reached at any time at (269) 503-5285 or by email at
