Chamber board meeting minutes                  November 18, 2010

Called to order at 12:03 pm               Present:           President Edith Doenges, Nancy Percival, Greg Bordner, Mary Beth Bower & Julie Baker

Absent:            VP Kay Decker, Treasurer Kathy Earl & Secretary Rick Fisher

Members        Linda Musall, Pam Gilbert, Terri Craft, Penny Fisher & Marie Fisher

Pledge of Allegiance to the United States of America opened the meeting.

President Doenges introduced guest Ron Rademacher with Michigan Back Roads. Rademacher gave a presentation on his Terrific Towns program, about promoting our community on & For anyone surfing the web about Michigan and travel these web links are at the top of the search list. This program on the web sends anyone looking for road trips in Michigan to the Terrific Towns section. This is a program that selects only two small towns from each county to participate. Mendon is one and Ron has invited Colon to be the second one for St. Joseph County. This program is a great way to get Colon out there to be seen by more surfers. All searches will be tracked and reported back to the community.

The Program includes five web pages about the unique characteristics of the community & promoted yearly on the web magazine & link clicks are tracked. Cost of the program is one year $400, 2 year $600 and 3 year $750. Ron was thanked for his presentation.

Motion to accept minutes from October 21st meeting. Percival/Bordner passed

Treasurer report- $8,456.78 in check book                Bills –  none outstanding

Motion to approve Treasurer’s report as presented, Baker/Bordner passed

Christmas in Colon activity flyer was handed out, Craft & the Fishers were commended for all their hard work. Craft ask if the Chamber could sponsor the 3 prizes for the kids contest being held. It was discussed that all 3 prized be worth $30 each and that the prized should promote spending the prize in Colon.

Motion was made to have Baker make up 90 “Colon Bucks” to be used as prize money for spending at Colon businesses and that the Chamber would reimburse area businesses for the “Colon Bucks”. Bower/Bordner passed

Motion was made to enroll in the Terrific Towns program for three years at $750. Bordner/Percival passed.

Discussion was held that this in no way reflex badly on the site that Chuck does for all the area, this is just an additional way for Colon to be seen. We all want to commend Chuck on the wonderful job he is doing promoting Colon in the web site.

Discussion was held on changing the Chamber meeting dates and times. Everyone present agreed to leaving it at monthly and at noon. We are getting more member participation as it is.

Discussion was held on getting a current list of members and getting out Chamber Certificates to these members. Bower and Baker said they would get with Sec. Fisher to help get this done.

It was also mentioned that we should promote Chamber membership with a membership drive.
