Colon Community Schools provides an excellent education for almost one thousand students from a district with an area of over one hundred square miles. The school provides pre-school to post secondary opportunities through its three school buildings. Colon Elementary School offers Kindergarten through sixth grade classes along with Michigan School Readiness classes for four year aids and special needs classes for 3 year aids through sixth grade. Colon Elementary School was recognized by the State of Michigan for its prestigious "Golden Apple Award" for outstanding state test score improvements. Leonidas School is a basic skills school for kindergarten through eighth grade. Students focus on Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies in multi-age classrooms. Colon Jr./Sr. High School offers some of the best education in St. Joseph County in grades seven through twelve. Students with strong vocational interests may pursue their chosen careers while some earn college credit or state/ national recognized certificates while still completing their high school education. Juniors and Seniors may qualify to attend college while still in high school and a few have completed their freshman year of college while still in high school.
Our rural setting and small size offers students a chance to try several opportunities in school or extra curricular offerings that they wouldn't have an opportunity to try in a larger school climate. New students find the small class sizes and friendly, competent teachers to be very welcoming indeed.
